SHIVA LINGAM SO BIG, It Needs TWO Floors! (Draksharamam Temple) 51 Shaktpeeta Yatra

Ever Seen a Shiva Linga This Big? I’m sure you haven’t seen a temple like this. This temple houses one of the longest swayambhu, or self-manifested, Shiva Lingas, measuring almost 14 feet. To see it fully, you have to visit both the ground floor and the first floor of the temple. Because of its size, the temple itself was built in two stories. Amazingly, this Shiva Linga has been growing over time. In ancient days, it was said to be much smaller. Another unique tradition here is that the abhishekam is performed from the first floor. It is also believed that the great sage Vyasa Maharshi once visited this temple. This temple is one of the 18 Ashtadasha Shakti Peethams and also one of the five Pancharama temples. These are the five sacred places where pieces of the Shiva Linga from Tarakasura’s throat fell after he was defeated by God Subramanya, also known as Murugan. It is also believed that Goddess Sati’s cheek fell here. Here, Goddess Adi Shakti is worshipped as Manikyamba, and God Shiva is worshipped as Bhimeswara. Another rare feature of this temple is that its Dwarapalakas, or gatekeepers, are God Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi, something you hardly ever see in a God Shiva temple. Within the complex stands a massive ancient tree. Beneath its roots lies a mysterious shrine dedicated to Naga Devata, along with a Shiva Linga and a murti of Mahavishnu. This is the famous Draksharamam Temple, located in Andhra Pradesh, India. Discover the secrets of one of India's most extraordinary temples—Draksharamam! This ancient complex houses the longest self-manifested (Swayambhu) Shiva Linga, measuring an awe-inspiring 14 feet tall. But here’s the twist: you can’t see the entire Shiva Linga from one spot! To fully appreciate its majestic form, you must explore both the ground floor and the first floor of the Garbha Gruha. In this video, we delve into every fascinating detail of this unique temple: • *A Two-Storied Wonder:* The temple’s sanctum is built on two levels, designed specifically to accommodate the towering Shiva Linga that has grown over centuries from its humble beginnings. • *Divine Legends:* As one of the 18 Ashtadasha Shakti Peethams and a Pancharama temple, legends say pieces of Shiva’s Linga from Tarakasura’s throat—and even Goddess Sati’s cheek—fell here. Goddess Adishakti is worshipped as Manikyamba, and God Shiva appears as Bhimeswara. • *Mystical Rituals:* Witness the mesmerizing abhishekam performed from the first floor under the glow of the morning sun. The crystal-like Shiva Linga, adorned with mysterious black stripes (reminiscent of Shiva’s tiger skin when in hunter form), will leave you spellbound. • *Architectural Marvel:* With a fort-like complex featuring intricately carved mandapams on both floors and four grand gopurams—each guarded by a different form of Goddess Manikyamba (Gogulamma, Nookambika, Moodhambike, and Ghattambike)—this temple is a visual feast. • *Rare Divine Features:* Unique to this temple, the Dwarapalakas are God Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi—an extraordinary sight in a Shiva temple. Explore additional shrines dedicated to deities like Praakara Bhairava, Viroopa, Natarajeshwar, Vaamana, Visheshwara, Dancing Ganapathi, Dundhi Ganapathi, Goddess Kanakadurga, and Goddess Annapurna. • *Sacred Surroundings:* Discover a secondary temple dedicated to God Kashi Vishweshwara, the ancient temple of God Kalabhairava with its rare Ashta Bhairava Lingas, and the mystical Sapta Godavari Kundam—a sacred pond where pilgrims purify their souls. • *Myth & History:* Learn how legends connect this place to Daksha’s Nirīśvara Yajña, and why the location’s name—Draksharamam, meaning “Abode of Daksha”—is steeped in myth. Even Vyasa Maharshi is said to have graced these grounds! • *Festive Vibes:* The temple comes alive during Maha Shivaratri and the Swamivari Kalyanam (the divine marriage ceremony of Lord Shiva and Goddess Shakti), offering a truly blissful spiritual experience. • *Location & Legacy:* Conveniently located 28 km from Kakinada, 50 km from Rajahmundry, and 25 km from Amalapuram, this temple’s stunning blend of Chalukyan and Chola architecture tells the tale of bygone dynasties and timeless devotion. Join us as we explore every hidden corner, miraculous detail, and divine secret of Draksharamam Temple.
