Spaces of Future Tech: A discussion by Keith Ranaldi and Bryan Smith at University:Future Festival 2025. On the one hand, future technologies are digital and fluid. On the other hand, they ultimately have a physical basis with hardware – and future tech often even has specific physical locations at universities in the form of MakerSpaces, Media Labs, Launch Labs and similar facilities. This session serves to promote and share such ›Spaces of Future Tech‹. We will start with a short introduction of the Media Lab and the EmergingTech Lab of the TU Braunschweig as well as the Library Innovation Labs of the University of Rhode Island and then open the session to everyone. Participate actively and introduce places at your university, be it with a few photos, slides or simply the website. Participation is possible both in Braunschweig and digitally. Keith Ranaldi, born and raised in the USA's Rhode Island, obtained a BA in Psychology and Art from the University of Rhode Island. In 2018, he completed a Master’s degree in Product Innovation (MPI) from Virginia Commonwealth University’s da Vinci Center. Keith works as director of the University of Rhode Island Library Innovation Labs and is passionate about growing a dynamic ecosystem of opportunities for URI's students. Bryan Smith has been with the University of Rhode Island for over ten years in a variety of different roles from student to staff. He graduated URI in 2017 with a B.S. in Entrepreneurial Management and a minor in Film/Media. Bryan previously worked with the Rhode Island Small Business Development Center, as well as for the URI Foundation & Alumni Engagement for over three years. Also the founder of a media startup, he found his way to Launch Lab in 2022 and currently serves as its Coordinator. /// The fifth edition of the University:Future Festival took place from 13-15 May 2025 under the motto /imagine! The physical locations of the hybrid festival were Berlin, Braunschweig, Graz, Nuremberg and Zurich. The University:Future Festival (U:FF) is the largest event on the (digital) future of academic education. Topics include AI, future skills, didactics and strategy processes. Participants saw a varied programme with over 300 contributions from more than 600 speakers! The University:Future Festival is a cooperation between Hochschulforum Digitalisierung, Stiftung Innovation in der Hochschullehre and Stifterverband. The partner stages were organised by TU Braunschweig, TU Graz, TH Nuremberg, TU Nuremberg and ETH Zurich. Information at https://festival.hfd.digital/en
