16 Blocks; 5 Locations

Composed by: Siatua Tausaga Compositions created by first-year students at the University of Washington Tacoma, in homage to John Cage's "49 Walzes for 5 Boroughs." The class titled their homage "16 Points; 5 Blocks." The students were enrolled in my TCORE 124d "Intro to Humanities" course in Spring Quarter 2014. Using chance methods, the class as a whole determined 16 points on the UWT campus. Then, small groups of collaborated on 'movements' of varying lengths to contribute to the piece. Each group collected audio and video from 4 of the 16 points, and were free to edit that audio/visual material as much or as little as they saw fit.
