Hi Everyone, my name is Dan, and I am a veterinarian. Today and I talking about the gastropexy or stomach tack in the dog. Please checkout my amazon with a handful of products that I use in the veterinary clinic on a daily basis. Clicking and buying helps the channel. Dan The Vet Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/shop/danthevet... The stomach tacking procedure in the dog is commonly completed to prevent GDV. GDV (Gastric Dilatation and Volvulus) is a very serious condition in the dog where the stomach bloats and then turns on itself. This leads to compromised blood flow to the stomach and spleen. In many cases this will lead to death even with surgery. The gastropexy or stomach tack surgical procedure can help prevent the GDV from happening, because the stomach is attached to the body wall. A veterinarian will complete the stomach tacking procedure by making a superficial cut into the stomach and body wall. The vet will then suture the stomach to the body wall. This will lead to the stomach and body wall adhering to each other and preventing the stomach from flipping and causing GDV. The gastropexy procedure can be completed a few different ways. Today I talk about the incision procedure, but the goal is to just prevent the stomach from ever flipping on itself. Disclaimer: This video does not replace veterinary care.
