AMD GPU’s Will Soon Support G-Sync Monitors!

Let’s get started with Nvidia. G-sync was introduced back in 2015, it was, for the most part, a hardware module added to monitors to sync refresh rates to frame rates. That technology would only work with Nvidia GPU’s and when monitors with the tech started to come out, they had a pretty hefty premium because of that module. In the same year, AMD introduced Freesync which did the same thing except it was available as part of the Adaptive sync standard. Nvidia pretty much shunned AMD by not letting their GPU’s support Freesync. Fast forward to January this year and Nvidia opened up a little by letting their GPU’s mingle with the free sync crowd. That way you can use cheaper Freesync monitors with Nvidia GPUs. At this point, you can use Nvidia GPUs with g-sync or Freesync monitors, and AMD GPUs with Freesync ones. And that brings us to today, A recent TFT central report revealed that Nvidia is finally going to open up their G sync technology to AMD GPU’s. It took them long enough but at least it’s an F for effort. With that, Nvidia is also introducing a new G sync firmware that will add variable refresh rate over HDMI. Something that Adaptive sync and Freesync 2.0 was already doing. The only issue is that this firmware will only work for newer and future G-sync modules.
