The Architectural Guild of the University of Southern California (USC) School of Architecture has selected Academy Award winning Art Director Henry Bumstead as the recipient of its 2004 Distinguished Alumnus Award. Presentation of the award will be made at the USC Architectural Guild's 45th Annual Dinner on Tuesday, May 11, 2004 at USC's Town & Gown. A cocktail reception and silent auction begin at 5:30 p.m. with dinner and presentation to begin at 7:30 p.m. All proceeds from this fundraising event support scholarships for USC School of Architecture students. Mr. Bumstead graduated from the USC School of Architecture in 1937. His skill as a draughtsman led him to become one of the most celebrated and revered art directors in Hollywood history. He has helped define the profession over his 67-year career, which includes over 100 films and numerous awards including Academy Awards for "To Kill a Mockingbird" and "The Sting". "The USC School of Architecture is pleased to honor Henry Bumstead, a man who has enjoyed a distinguished career in film and who embodies the diversity in career options that an education in architecture can provide," says Dean Robert H. Timme, FAIA of the School of Architecture. Bumstead will join a list of celebrated past awardees including Jon Jerde (1985), Frank O. Gehry (1987), Thom Mayne (1995) and Pierre Koenig (1998).
