First year attempt to drain waterfall plumbing in preparation for 23°F nights in forecast. Attempted leaf blower(which didn’t work) and shop-vac (which did). Was able to use leaf blower to confirm water was drained at end. There could still be some water in the waterfall plumbing, but if air is getting through from leaf blower then I figure there are no pools of water that completely fill pipe - should be air gap enough for freezing water preventing pipe burst. Otherwise leaving pool “open” for the winter - will leave pump going at very low speed during freezing temps. Possibility of power outage is the main problem with this plan. So, in the video I also explore some contingency plans for quickly draining: all equipment (pump, filter, heater), plumbing, and the pool to below skimmer level. My pool is a semi-in-ground metal wall with vinyl liner. Pools and equipment set-ups are endlessly variable. Very unlikely that you can directly reproduce my plan, but hopefully the general philosophy/idea will be of some help.
