🔋 The Early Beginnings of Electric Cars • In 1828, a Hungarian engineer named Ányos Jedlik created a small electric motor that could power a miniature vehicle. • In the 1830s, a Scottish inventor, Robert Anderson, built a prototype electric carriage powered by non-rechargeable batteries. • By the late 1800s, electric cars were becoming truly popular in Europe and America. ⸻ 🚙 The Golden Age (early 1900s) • In the United States, about 40% of cars were electric, 38% ran on steam, and only 22% used gasoline. • Electric cars were especially popular among wealthy women in big cities because: • They were quiet. • They produced no smoke. • They didn’t require a “crank start,” which was inconvenient and sometimes dangerous. • One of the most popular models was the Detroit Electric (1907–1939). Even Thomas Edison owned an electric car and worked on developing better batteries. ⸻ ⛽ Why Did They Lose Popularity? 1. Weak batteries → Very limited range (about 30–80 km per charge). 2. Rapid growth of gasoline infrastructure → After the discovery of huge oil reserves in Texas (1901), gasoline became cheap and widely available. 3. Ford’s Model T (1908) → Gasoline cars became much cheaper than electric cars. 4. The electric starter (1912) → Eliminated the need for hand-cranking, making gasoline cars much more practical. ⸻ 🔄 The Comeback • 1970s → The oil crisis sparked renewed interest in electric cars, but the technology wasn’t ready yet. • 1990s → The GM EV1 appeared, but production was canceled and most cars were destroyed, leading to major controversy. • 2000s and beyond → Tesla was founded in 2003 and changed public perception: electric cars were no longer seen as weak, but instead as fast, stylish, and cutting-edge. ⸻ 👉 So, we can say that electric cars are not just the future—they are the past reborn with new technology. #ElectricCars #EVHistory #AutomotiveHistory #Tesla #DetroitElectric #ThomasEdison #FutureOfCars #SustainableTransport #EVRevolution #CarDocumentary #Innovation #TechnologyHistory #GreenEnergy #ClassicCars #Automotive
