A teacher in Stanford's Department of Otolaryngology, Dr. Caitlin O'Connell- Rodwell is also recognized as a world-renowned expert on elephants. Caitlin O'Connell-Rodwell has dedicated the past 20 years of her research career to studying elephant communication and how their societies are constructed and maintained. She's the author of numerous scientific publications and the internationally acclaimed nonfiction science memoir, The Elephant's Secret Sense. She co-authored The Elephant Scientist, which won the 2012 Sibert Medal and the Horn Book Award. Her photo book, An Elephant's Life, has been reviewed enthusiastically by the Washington Post, USA Today, Reader's Digest and O magazine. Her upcoming book, A Baby Elephant's Year, will be published by Houghton Mifflin Books for Children in 2014. O'Connell blogs for the New York Times "Scientist at Work" series. She is the co-founder and CEO of the nonprofit organization Utopia Scientific, dedicated to research and science education.
