Headline reading (Serbian) "Hadzic was hiding and working in Russia" STORYLINE Goran Hadzic's family arrived to visit the jailed war crimes suspect in a Belgrade prison, ahead of his upcoming extradition to the United Nations war crimes tribunal in the Netherlands. Hadzic's wife, sister and son came to the detention unit of the Serbian war crimes tribunal early on Thursday. Hadzic's lawyer Toma Fila said outside court that his client is not going to appeal the handover to the Hague court, but wanted to see his family before being extradited. Officials say Hadzic could be moved on Saturday and his lawyer said it could happen anytime from "Friday evening onwards". The arrest was hailed as the symbolic closure of an horrific chapter in Balkan history and an important step toward the former pariah state of Serbia joining the European Union. The former Croatian Serb leader was the last fugitive sought by the Hague court. He was arrested on Wednesday in northern Serbia, after seven years on the run while receiving much-needed cash from an accomplice. Hadzic is sought for atrocities stemming from the 1991-95 war in Croatia. He gained prominence through his links to Serbian leader Slobodan Milosevic's secret police, taking charge of an ethnic Serbian mini-state created by the brutal expulsion of non-Serbs from one third of Croatia's territory. According to the tribunal, Hadzic was among those responsible for the 1991 levelling of Vukovar, said to be the first European city entirely destroyed since World War II. About 10-thousand people died in the war, which ended after Croatia retook the territories in 1995.
