Blowout fractures | Orbital Cellulitis | AMC interview questions | Army Doctor | Interview Guide An orbital blowout fracture refers to a pure fracture of the orbital floor and medial wall where orbital contents herniate into the maxillary and ethmoid sinuses. Blow-out fractures of the orbital walls result from a direct blow to the orbit by an object that is too large to enter the orbital cavity, such as a fist or a baseball. The force of the impact travels through the bone and is transferred to one or more of the very thin walls of the orbit. By definition, the orbital rim in blow-out fractures remains intact. The most common fractures involve the medial wall of the orbit formed by the lamina papyracea of the ethmoid bone and the floor of the orbit that separates this space from the maxillary sinus. Orbital cellulitis is an infection of the soft tissues and fat that hold the eye in its socket. This condition causes uncomfortable or painful symptoms. It’s not contagious, and anyone can develop the condition. However, it most commonly affects young children. Orbital cellulitis is a potentially dangerous condition. When left untreated, it can lead to blindness, or serious or life-threatening conditions.
