Originally posted Oct. 2nd 2021: Today’s Saturday tech video is on a classic issue for vacuum actuated 4wd owners….. a burned out VSV! This is a repair I knew was going to be coming down the road some day so I was thankfully ready for it. More importantly I knew how to deal with it in the field…. Swap those hoses! A huge thank you to randy88FJ62 on ih8mud for first posting about this awesomely easy and cost effective repair way back in 2008!! I mistakenly said 2016 in the video…that was the year I first bought this part in anticipation of this repair. hahaha He has a great thread titled “Writeup: 1988 FJ62 4WD Solenoid fix for $17.77” in the 60 series section. https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/writ... The part number for this repair is P/N 88690-89132. On another note, this job requires getting old and potentially crusty-rusty screws out. Always a good idea to invest in some quality JIS screwdrivers. Splurge for the VESSEL units, you wont regret it. wits.end sells a nice kit. Cheers all, we hope you have a great weekend out on the trails or in the garage/driveway with your cruiser.
