The Green Mosque

In the second video of the series where we introduce a different mosque for each day during Ramadan, we are welcomed by the beautiful Yeşil Camii (The Green Mosque). It is said to heal both the eye and the soul. One of the most magnificent and precious mosques of Turkey, Bursa's Yeşil Camii was built in 1424 by the then Ottoman Sultan I. Murat. It should be noted that the architect of this extraordinary work was Hacı İvaz Paşa. As soon as you enter the mosque, Iznik tiles and embroideries create a tremendous spiritual tranquility within us. In my opinion, splendor, decoration, and details are an indispensable spiritual part of Islamic art. Oh, and for those who don't know, the Yeşil Camii is also the location we see in Osman Hamdi Bey's (1842-1910) painting "The Tortoise Trainer".
