Peace Dialogue – Inclusivity, Equality, and Trust in Peacebuilding As the UN approached its 80th anniversary, the international community faced a multitude of crises — from armed conflicts, economic downturns, and societal polarization to rising inequalities and climate change. These challenges strained the international system and tested multilateralism, threatening global peace and security. Yet, inclusivity, equality, and trust remained the essential pillars for sustaining peace. The discussion explored three interrelated themes: Civil Society: indispensable actors in peacebuilding, trust‑building, and the delivery of essential services, even as they faced shrinking space for participation and action. Older Persons: carriers of memory, knowledge, and wisdom; community mediators and vital participants in intergenerational dialogue — too often overlooked in multilateral peace processes. Water Diplomacy: a tool for conflict prevention and resolution, and a driver of effective cooperation, requiring inclusive approaches at the community, national, and multilateral levels. Water served as a powerful entry point for examining the intersection of peacebuilding, inclusivity, and civil society engagement — from ensuring access to basic services in conflict‑affected contexts, to advancing cooperative frameworks for sustainable peace in shared basins. Slovenia, as a member of the UN Security Council and the Peacebuilding Commission, as well as an active contributor and candidate to the Human Rights Council, hosted this Peace Dialogue — connecting the Geneva and New York ecosystems and reinforcing the importance of collaboration across global peace platforms.
