On that same Friday rush hour, I documented the end of pre-Transitway rush hour operations at Dadeland South, I did a fair amount of bus spotting at my home stop, before and after my time at DLS. The last clip is of Proterra ZX5 E2210, the sole Proterra in service out of Coral Way Division, and one of only 3 to 5 operational in the entire system, out of an order of 70. They have failed, and the process of retiring them formally appears to be underway. A lot of hurdles have to be cleared, most notably the granting of a penalty waiver from the FTA, which absolves MDT from having to pay a fine to the Federal government for retiring equipment purchased with Federal dollars ahead of the 12-year deadline...the FTA has received several requests from former Proterra operators, and all have apparently been granted so far. CW's allotment, except for 22140, have been towed to the still-unopened South Dade Division for storage, to make room for the New Flyer XE60 artics for Transitway service. When I filmed this, 22140 was primarily working a route 136 tripper on weekday mornings, and then assigned to the 88 in the evenings, working the last 88 of the night. Weekends it would travel around. Since the new pick went into effect, 22140 is now a full-time journeyman bus traveling the CW service area, still mainly on South and West Dade routes, and will do so until it fails completely. Enjoy these catches!
