The Trial of Kurt Student - For War Crimes in Crete 1941 With Greg Way Part of our War Crimes Trials - Investigations, Trials and Legacies playlist    • War Crimes Trials - Investigations, Trials...   Kurt Student attained the rank of Oberstgeneral in the Luftwaffe, and as commander of German airborne forces, he planned the attack on Eban Emael in 1940 and the invasion of Crete in 1941. Student was captured by the British in Schleswig-Holstein in April 1945. He was interrogated in London and, in May 1947, he appeared before a British Military Court in Luneberg, charged with several war crimes including the mistreatment and murder of prisoners of war. Greg Way joined the Royal Navy in 1988 and volunteered for the submarine service, completing his 22 years service in 2010. With a lifelong interest in the war he became interested in the Fallschirmtruppe and by chance in 1998 came into contact with several Fallschirmjäger veterans. Having conducted further research, Gregory set up a website in 1999 detailing the exploits of this famous formation and in 2001 he decided to publish the first-hand accounts he had received over the years.
