The Hexagon Design & Engineering India User Conference 2025 included an engaging panel discussion on skilling young engineers for the age of disruption. Moderated by Sridhar Dharmarajan, EVP and Managing Director, Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence India, the panel featured an illustrious set of domain experts, and academicians including Dr. Kamakoti, IIT Madras; Dr. Sitarameswara Sarma Akella, Mahindra & Mahindra; Dr. Venkata Sastry Narasimhadevara, Director, Career Centre, SRM IST Chennai; and Murali Balasubramanian, Regional Head – Technologies, Training & Skills, Stellantis. The discussion centred around the skills and strategies needed for India to become the global hub of engineering talent, especially in the face of this technological disruption. The panel made some pertinent observations such as the benefit of institutionalized skilling, the rationale behind the Government’s apprenticeship program, and the need for academia and industry coming together to build the right skills at scale.
