In this video, Dr. Sina Jasim from the Washington University School of Medicine in St Louis, highlights key data from a 2023 ATA poster “Molecular Assessment of Isthmus Thyroid Carcinomas”. Using data from Veracyte’s Afirma test, the research team assessed the molecular characteristics of isthmus thyroid carcinoma and revealed important insights suggesting that thyroid cancers arising from the isthmus are molecularly different from those arising from the lobes. Isthmic thyroid cancers have significantly more molecular features associated with aggressive disease as compared to those from the thyroid lobes. Discover how researchers from WashU Medicine, Memorial Healthcare System, and Veracyte examined the gene expression profiles, and molecular signatures based on tumor location, from histopathology data of 541 patients with DTC to improve our understanding of the unique molecular landscape of isthmic thyroid carcinoma.
