Traveling through the darkness, the cool air carries the savannah’s scent. Then, a male lion appears. Majestic and commanding, he is soon joined by his pride, their affection a rare, intimate moment in the wild. At the check-in point, the night’s rain has soaked the ground. Dawn spreads gold and rose across the horizon, painting the Mara in ethereal light. The massive balloons are unfurled and filled with hot air, glowing as they rise. We climb into the basket, secure ourselves, and feel the anticipation swell. The wet ground causes the basket to shift, yet the pilot calmly continues. Slowly, we lift off. Suspended between night and day, the Mara stretches below. At the captain’s cue, we stand and witness the plains, scattered acacias, and winding rivers shimmering in the morning light. Drifting over a river, the balloon’s reflection mirrors the sky above. Herds of elephants roam the golden grasslands, and animals pause, gazing upward. Climbing to 1,000 feet, we do a full 360-degree spin, taking in trails of safari vehicles below and the balloon’s shadow drifting across the land. Masai ostriches stride gracefully, while distant elephants graze joyfully. The Mara unfolds in vast, endless beauty, alive with movement, and its timeless rhythm fills us with awe. After landing, we are guided to a bush breakfast. Welcome drinks sparkle against the plains, and a chef prepares breakfast to order, each dish crafted with care.
