In less than 24 hours, 10-year-old Lev'Veon - a competitive swimmer, football player and trombone player - went from playing at his sister’s birthday part to flatlining in an ICU from a sudden cardiac arrest. He needed a heart transplant but was too sick to get one. The case was so dire that his pediatric cardiology teams could only consider one option to save him. It involved a high-risk procedure that had never been performed on a child before in the state: a total artificial heart implantation. In 2024, Lev'Veon became one of the smallest and youngest patients in the world to undergo the procedure successfully. His family shares their journey.
