Fjærlandsfjorden is a scenic branch of the mighty Sognefjorden, located in Sogndal Municipality in Vestland, Norway. Stretching roughly 25 kilometers (16 miles), the fjord runs from the village of Fjærland southward until it meets the main Sognefjorden close to Balestrand. Along its course, two smaller offshoots—Esefjorden and Vetlefjorden—extend from the main fjord. The fjord averages about 1.5 kilometers (0.9 miles) in width and is framed by dramatic, steep mountain slopes on both sides. The most livable area lies at its innermost end, where a relatively flat river valley opens up north of the water. The village of Fjærland sits in this inner section, somewhat secluded; access is primarily by boat or through lengthy road tunnels carved through the surrounding mountains.
