Meet Bristol Northern Soul, Mod, Freakbeat and 1960s DJ, John Gough: the Wild Man of Wax. This Bristol music documentary starts in the 1960s when John was one of the city’s very first vinyl DJs and even now at 76 years of age, he still fills the dance floors and pubs in his hometown. For John, music isn’t just background noise - it’s a way of life. John started collecting records in the 1960s and has an extensive collection, covering all genres of music. He first started DJing in Bristol in 1965 in Withywood Youth Club. Today he DJs around Bristol and you'll often find him in Old Market, playing spots in The Swan With Two Necks, The Elmers Arms and The Volunteer Tavern. From Northern Soul, to 60s mod, freakbeat and psychedelic rock, John inspires younger generations to share his love of music. He is a Bristol music legend. 🎬📽️ This documentary was created on Friday 28th March 2025 in two fantastic pubs in Bristol. 1️⃣ The Volunteer Tavern during the Soul Style 2 night organised by Josh Penning, Oscar Mitchinson and Thomas Hansen. 2️⃣ The Elmer’s Arms during the Purple Heart Surgery organised by John Gough, Andy Baker and special guest John Stapleton. 🍻 Several pints were consumed during its creation. Cheers! Interviews with Bristol DJs: John Gough, Josh Penning and Oscar Mitchinson. HELP ME CREATE VIDEOS: If you're enjoying my videos, please consider leaving a tip.
