How to Invest in the S&P500 Index in the Philippines & Abroad?

In this video, we will show you how you can invest in the index funds, ETFs and UITFs that track the S&P500 Index both in the Philippines and abroad. Here are some of the index funds, ETFs and UITFs that track the S&P500 Index: NOTE: Note that there are other funds, MF, UITF, or ETFs that are not included in the examples below. When selecting funds to invest, always choose the lowest expense ratio. Abroad: i. Vanguard S&P500 ETF – stock code VOO in NYSE, expense ratio = 0.03% ii. iShares Core S&P500 ETF – stock code IVV in NYSE, expense ratio = 0.03% iii. SPDR S&P500 ETF Trust – stock code SPY in NYSE, expense ratio = 0.095% Local (Philippines): i.EastWest S&P 500 Index Equity Feeder Fund - this is a UITF feeder fund offered by EastWest Bank whose target fund is the iShares Core S&P500 ETF. Expense Ratio of target fund = 0.03% + trust fee = 0.50% for EastWest Bank ii.Metro$ US Equity Feeder Fund – this is a UITF feeder fund offered by Metrobank whose target fund is iShares Core S&P500 ETF, expense ratio of target fund = 0.03%, trust fee = 0.75% for Metrobank iii. BPI US Equity Index Feeder Fund – this is a UITF feeder fund offered by BPI whose target fund is SPDR S&P500 ETF Trust. Expense Ratio of target fund = 0.095% + trust fee = 0.77% for BPI Why would you want to invest in the S&P500? i. The S&P500 is one of the highly regarded index in the world ii. This is composed of the 500 largest, most stable American companies iii. The US is still the largest economy in the world. iv. The US stock market is relatively the most stable, and highly regulated in the world v. Therefore, if you invest in the S&P500, you are putting your money into the most stable, most profitable companies in the world. vi. And if you invest in the long term, you will be assured that you will get the market return. Always remember, all things being equal, go for a fund with the lowest expense ratio.
