Carl Jung believed the human mind develops through stages of awareness — expanding like circles that grow larger as consciousness deepens. From inside any one level, however, its limits are invisible. That is why most people believe they understand themselves far more than they actually do. In this video, we explore the seven psychological levels Jung associated with the process of individuation — the journey from unconscious reaction to complete psychological integration. The path begins with pure instinct and tribal identity, progresses through the construction of the ego, and then enters the most difficult stage: the crisis where the ego begins to break and the shadow emerges. For those who continue beyond that rupture, a new perspective appears — the observer who can watch thoughts and emotions without being controlled by them. Eventually the opposites within the psyche reconcile, leading to what Jung called the Self, a state of integration where conscious and unconscious aspects of the mind are unified. Most people never move beyond the early levels because the comfort of identity feels like completion.
