Your Orthopedic Treatment: Joint Preserving Orthopaedic Surgery: https://www.joint-surgeon.com Range of motion deficits indicating elbow arthritis, Dr. Bastian Marquaß, Gelenk Klinik So in case of elbow pain we have to check that there is no acute lesion of the elbow joint, no severe injury. If I have a patient who has maybe seem kind of blocking or some kind of crepitation inside the joint, I might have the idea that arthritis is the reason. So what I do is an X-ray of the elbow joint because it's my first line in image diagnostics. In the X-Ray I usually see quite well if there's an arthritis or not. However, if I'm unsure or if I suspect a focal cartilage lesion MRI might be indicated. If I'm looking at the patient, a patient with arthritis might have extension deficits, for example they don't have the full range of motion like here, they might have a limited extension or flexion in combination with a feeling of popping and blockation inside the joint. What's also quite typical is that if I push against the elbow joint and then do a kind of motion, I have the feeling, or sometimes I hear it, of a crepitation inside the joint.
