Some call this area the "Neo-Nazi Heartland" of Germany. I travelled to Sachsen to explore the explore the region for my self in search of answers as to whether these claims are true. Join me as I explore Sachsen. My journey takes me down the Elbe Valley, from the beautiful old town of Pirna, which hides a horrific Nazi past, to the decaying industrial towns of Freital, which were left behind after the fall of communism. This is a story that connects the dots between a history of state-sponsored murder in the Aktion T4 program, the economic trauma of reunification, and the rise of modern far-right extremism.
