Pretty English Garden Update! Gorgeous ‘Purple Kisses’ pots, Vintage Larkspur, Extreme Lavender Lop

Welcome to the early August tour of our small garden in Kent, South East England! We are two amateur gardeners, plant enthusiasts and nature lovers, creating colourful seasonal container plant arrangements with gorgeous annuals and perennials, staged against a beautiful backdrop of evergreen shrubs and hydrangeas, many grown here from cuttings. What really brings the garden alive are the bees and butterflies visiting our blooms. In this early August garden update, we showcase two new annuals we’ve grown from seed: a beautiful wild carrot cultivar called ‘Purple Kisses’, which makes a charming cut flower; and a Larkspur with decidedly vintage charm called ‘Misty Lavender’. I’ve been inspired by the stunning fountain of tiered water bowls adorned with animated parrots and toucans in the Walled Garden West at RHS Wisley: I'm splashing out on an adorable little cast iron parrot statue and will repurpose many everyday garden objects to create a humble tribute to the wonderful Wisley fountain. We hope it inspires you to create something new in the garden from reimagined familiar objects. And I’ve been rather dreading cutting into the hardwood of our English lavender, Lavandula angustifolia ‘Folgate’. However, this drastic prune is necessary to try and create a more compact growth form for next year, as plants have become splayed and leggy before their time and we would love them to last for years. Join me while I work away and make comparisons with our new Lavandin bushes, Lavandula x intermedia ‘Phenomenal’. Let’s get started!
