For Senior Ranger David Henke, working with whales is more than a job, it’s a privilege and a responsibility. Over his 20-year career with the Parks and Wildlife Service, David has been involved in more than 60 whale disentanglement operations, each one complex. Each rescue attempt is carried out by trained experts as part of an approved whale rescue operation. During these operations, the usual separation distances aren’t applied to allow the to team to safely and effectively do their work and give the whales the best chance. 💡 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽: If you see an entangled whale, please call the Wildcare Helpline immediately on 9474 9055. Please do not attempt to intervene yourself or remove any trailing ropes or line as this can hinder disentanglement efforts by trained experts. 📹 Watch the video to hear David share what draws him to this work — the challenge, the focus, and the rare chance to engage so closely with some of the ocean’s most incredible creatures.
