The fort played a crucial role in Maratha history, serving as an important strategic location during the rule of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and later under the Peshwas. • Built during the Shilahar dynasty (12th century), later captured by Adilshahi of Bijapur. • Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj took control of the fort in 1673. • After Shivaji Maharaj’s era, it was occupied by the Mughals and later recaptured by the Marathas. • It was also an administrative center during the reign of the Peshwas. Sajjangad Fort is a historic fort located in Satara, Maharashtra.
