Pleomorphic Adenoma of Parotid Gland: Key Ultrasound Findings, Diagnosis & Management Explained

Pleomorphic adenoma is the most common benign tumor of the parotid gland, typically seen in middle-aged females. On ultrasound, it appears as a well-defined, lobulated, hypoechoic mass, often with a small cystic focus due to myxoid or degenerative changes. Color Doppler usually shows poor or minimal vascularity. These tumors are usually painless and present with slow or subacute growth. Though benign, they can enlarge and, rarely, undergo malignant transformation if untreated. Diagnosis is supported by imaging and confirmed by FNAC. Surgical excision (superficial parotidectomy) is the treatment of choice, offering an excellent prognosis with low recurrence when completely removed.
