This is the official music video of the single "Do we let go" by Granheimn. The song is available on all platforms where you listen to music. It started with me writing the first line which basically is about what a big jerk i can be. Then the next lines came by themselves and all of a sudden, I had a song. A bottomless subject apparently, but I broaden it out to make it more universal and perhaps relatable. But quite a lot directly from the inner space in this song. Thanks to Brian Vadimsky ( / @brianv7 ) for helping out on questions about grammar and language. Often I start out writing with the ukulele due to the different tuning to regular guitar and basses. That makes me stumble over harmonies and melodies I probably wouldn’t find with conventional guitar tuning. However, on this song I started out with a chord pattern I had played around on acoustic guitars earlier. The idea for the choir and instrumental middle part was inspired from the song “To be over” by Yes where they introduce one melody on top of the other with different instruments before the vocals come in as a chord foundation. I wanted to approach the writing of that part in that vein, turning the roles of voices and instruments upside down, and use that to build up a crescendo leading into the guitar solo (which I wanted with dynamic changes, to recreate a journey so to speak). Great fun with piano, moog-and mellotron softs and I’m also happy with the bass line. Tried it with a pick but found my tone using palm mute, thumb and fingerpicking on my fretless. All guitars and bass are from analog amps. No software sounds, just a digitech box for effects to my electric guitar before going into the amp (thanx for loaning me the amp Hansi! / @dick667 ). This is also the first song I play the drums (electric drum pads) on, instead of programming or playing with my fingers on my iPad. It's always a thrill trying to learn new instruments. (Btw i got a didgeri-do for xmas!) Since the lyrics are more up front in this song apart from my previous songs, I chose to have more of myself singing during this video, also to illustrate the self blaming, to see myself and to react to my weaknesses. To support the lyrics. About my artistry: I'm taking control over everything myself! Writing, singing, playing whatever instrument, mixing, mastering, releasing. And I make whatever I want, as long as I like it myself. First song «Samina» was released in 2023, a funky electronica danceable song with jazzy elements. The second single is a groovy metal song with a solid guitar riff and hammond organs. All in all I’ve released 6 songs now in different genres.
