#SCOSoundbites – Symphonic Poem – Hope Concert: An Evening of Concertos III Date: 11 June 2022 Erhu: Zhao Jianhua In 1986, Min was seriously ill. In a subconscious state, she often felt that she was floating amongst the blue mists, and could miraculously hear the celestial sounds of the heavens. After which, she composed the erhu symphonic poem, Hope, where its instrumentation was choreographed by Mr Qu Chun Quan. The work’s inaugural performance in May that same year at the “Spring of Shanghai” concert was a great success. Its performance 20 years later in this concert stirs in Min feelings of turbulence and thus she composed a poem to express her feelings and in wishing the performance a success. Singing the song of agony in the day, I sigh at the moon in the night. Plagued by all the troubles she felt like giving up many a times. However the remnant of he soul was not to be extinguished easily. Journeying amongst the mists through the heavens, a tune of purity flowed endlessly through my heart.
