In this video I show you how you achieve MOST of your loudness with thoughtful mixing decisions, not through your mastering chain and mastering limiter. I'm demoing this principle on a nightmare bass-heavy track that has characteristics that typically make it really difficult to cleanly hit competitive loudness targets. This is NOT how you should really sequence and arrange your tracks in real practice. It's an artificial example of common mistakes that less experienced producers typically make in their sequencing and over-layering of sounds. (All of which make it really hard to get loud in a clean way, especially for bass music.) I'm showing you how even in the face of such newbie arrangement mistakes, you can still get competitively loud without destroying the mix. It all boils down to applying some basic mixing principles that are necessary for working in louder genres (especially in loud bass-heavy genres). You might notice I'm mixing with peaks hitting 0 dBFS. This is part of my Clip-to-Zero strategy that just makes gainstaging and mixing easier when you work in louder genres.
