As well as containing water features and ancient trees they also are the scene of an important part of Iran's history. STORYLINE: The Fin Gardens in their present form dates back to the to the Safavid era (1501-1732), but they are thought to have been in existence for several thousand years. It is famous for trees, its water supply and numerous water features, as well as several historic buildings including a famous bath house. One of the most outstanding features of the garden is a pool with small fountains. Esmaeil Shafafi, a National Heritage expert explains how the water is channelled through the spouts. In the middle of the gardens there is an impressive building, like a chateau. And in the centre of the building a pool of water that people sometimes throw their coins into for luck. On the walls and ceiling of the building are traces of colourful paintings. These paintings include views of hunting, as well as portraits of kings and princes - but only fragments of the paintings have survived. The peaceful environment of the garden attracts many artists and painters. Parvin Mohtasham, a drawing and painting student has chosen to come and sketch here. She says she finds the gardens inspiring.
