Learn how to move your larynx when you sing. Go to https://theinsidevoice.org for the full instructional video, targeted vocal exercises, and to sign up for a trial of our Inside Voice program with personalized teacher feedback. You hear a lot of myths from voice teachers about how you should always do x-y-z with your larynx: always keep it low, always keep it neutral, let it move around but never try to control it... In this video, we'll learn how and why you should move your larynx, AND make your own decisions about what that movement should be. You'll find much more practice on moving your larynx, broken up for high voices and low voices, as well as a wide variety of other vocal topics. Moving your larynx has a lot of utility when you're singing. Not only does it make it possible for you to reach the highs and lows of your range, but it greatly dictates style. You can use a high larynx for belting, for more strident singing like punk rock, and for more child-like singing, like the innocent indie pop sound. A mid larynx is perfect for clear, speech-like tones and can be great for the sweetness of a Disney princess sound. A low larynx creates warmer tones and is wonderful for a variety of genres, including opera. Huge credit to Estill Voice Training for its instruction on larynx height in voice control.
