Triple 88 lift at Pomerelle, Idaho, 17 January 2026. So what’s the deal with this place and their backpack policy? For some reason they’re suuuuper strict about taking your backpack off and putting it on your lap while on the lifts. That shit is optional, 100% skier’s discretion at every other mountain on the planet, yet I had lifties barking at me left and right at this place about it. And not in like a ‘friendly suggestion’ sorta way, more like ‘mandatory instructions to ski here’ voice. I even had one liftie chase after me after the dismount, going ‘sir, sir, sir, sir, you need to take your backpack off on the lift.’ Was there some incident / injury / lawsuit sometime in the past? And obviously, if you have something the size of a piano strapped to your back, of course you’re gonna take it off. But my backpack is super minimal, almost nothing in it and really flat, so no, I expect that to be totally optional, not mandatory in this circumstance. Apart from that, first time at this mountain for me. Located in southern Idaho, between Twin Falls and Pocatello. Impressions- it’s really flat. The greens are green, the blues are something halfway between green and blue, and the blacks are mostly blue, with maybe a small section that is a bit steeper, but still one of those faces that would be half blue / half black, and groomed. So it’s very much a beginner’s mountain, so expect a whole bunch of kids and beginner skiers, which means all sorts of stoppages and slow-downs on the lifts. And both lifts they have are fixed triples, nothing detachable / high speed, so they’re going really slow in the first place. There’s probably lots of fun to be had in the trees and off-piste Punch Bowl, but only if they had a shit ton of snow, and that likely won’t happen this year, as most everybody on the west half of the country is bone dry with no relief in sight. So, this place was OK for a handful of cruiser runs on a Saturday afternoon. I don’t see myself ever going back. I mean, I'm sure they'll do well with the families and the kids. But once is enough for me. If you do go, just be ready for some draconian backpack enforcement.
