However the substance poses some risks related to flammability and most urgently the mining and distribution process which can be hugely destructive to local environments and occupationally hazardous. Despite these challenges, the strength of the element as a conduit for electricity keeps it as a leader in battery technology. Accure, a startup from Aachen wants to address this through its battery management software which gathers data from battery use and optimizes the management of the battery’s internal resources to increase the lifetime of the battery by 25% or more. This year, the start up has been nominated as a finalist for SET Award 2021 in the category of Energy Distribution and Storage along with 14 other start ups from around the world.
