During a lovely sunny afternoon, I walk through Oxford University Parks and across to the tree-shaded and exclusive houses of Harberton Mead, thence to Headington along ancient Cuckoo Lane, so surrounded on either side that it's like being in a tunnel. Along the way, I find free rhubarb, pass a Communion service in the Orthodox Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, and buy mochi and bags of fueru wakame. I think of myself as one of the few locals to know Harberton Mead, so I was amused to find that singer-songwriter Robin Bennett of "Oxford’s jangly-pop maestros" The Dreaming Spires says that in their album Paisley Overground, his group named a song after it. He lived in Oxford for years and never knew the road: "It's full of gated mansions". But "Some friends ended up living in a shared house there owned by the university, and the name stuck with me. It has a mystery to it, like Itchycoo Park or Penny Lane." ( https://sayitwithgarageflowers.com/ta... ) So this video takes you through the Penny Lane of Oxford.
