The Power of Baptism Water baptism is a powerful, necessary step in the life of a believer. In this sermon, Pastor Hans shared three powerful truths about what baptism represents. 1. Baptism is Obedience Jesus commanded us to be baptized (Matthew 28:19–20). It’s an act of obedience that follows salvation, not something that earns it. We are saved by grace through faith, not by works, but baptism is a response that says, “I’m choosing to follow Jesus.” Even without the opportunity for baptism (like the thief on the cross), salvation is still found in faith, but when we can be baptized, obedience matters. 2. Baptism is a Sign Baptism is an outward declaration of an inward transformation. It’s publicly confessing Jesus before others (Matthew 10:32). When we go under the water, it represents dying to our old life. When we rise up, it symbolizes being made new in Christ (Romans 6:3–4). It’s a visible picture of what Jesus has already done in our hearts. 3. Baptism is Spiritual Baptism represents being fully identified with Christ. We are clothed in Him, made one with other believers, and brought into the family of God (Galatians 3:26–29). It’s not just symbolic, it carries deep spiritual meaning, marking our identity as sons and daughters of God and heirs of His promises. It’s not just getting in water…it’s stepping into your new life in Christ.
