A short video presentation of the Alesis Microverb II (1988), a cute little budget-priced 16-bit stereo reverb unit from the 1980s. Only a couple of the presets are any good but LARGE-4 is nice and SMALL-2 thickens the sound effectively. In this video I try out some drums, then a Model D pad, then I compare it with the Strymon Big Sky, which is unfair but such is life. Is it a hidden gem? No, although it's tiny, and if you can find it cheaply with the odd 9v AC / 3.5mm jack power adapter snap it up. The Microverb I had reverse reverb and was 12-but, the Microverb III and 4 were rackmount units, the latter 18-bit. Points to note: the Model D section has been run through a compressor, which exaggerates the Microverb's noise tail - but the Big Sky is run through the same compressor and is obviously much less noisy. I really need to clean the Big Sky's footswitches at some point. There's a bit of crackle during the opening low-pitched pad, I wonder if I was overloading the Big Sky.
