JC Corner Hey everyone. A song that has been sitting on my desk for a very long time is finally seeing the light of day, and lyrically this is one of the most personal pieces I’ve ever written. My mother has been living with a slowly progressing memory disease for about eleven years now. During the last year the illness has advanced much faster — and so has the weight it places on the people around her, including me. These lyrics touch on emotions that are rarely talked about in public discussions, and in many ways almost feel forbidden to talk about. But anyone who has walked this road knows that at some point those feelings appear. From the very beginning I knew this song needed a heavy 90s dark punk sound to carry that emotional weight. The song was torn apart and rebuilt probably five times. The only thing that survived from the very first version is the guitar solo you hear at the beginning. At some point I realized the topic was simply too close to the bone to tell directly as a personal story. So I started thinking about what kind of story could reflect those same emotions from another angle — and that’s how this narrative was born. It’s up to you to decide how well I managed to pull it off. What I can say is that this didn’t come together in a day, a week, or even a month. This piece was built slowly — worked on, put aside, and then dug out of the drawer again. I hope you enjoy it. Take care of yourself. Keep your flag high, turn the knobs all the way up — and rock forward. — JC
