George Floyd Deserves Justice |

Welcome to It Started With Emily Doe. Since I am a white woman and therefore have more privilege than others (please note the sarcasm), I felt I needed to talk about what happened to George Floyd and the systematic racism in this country. If you don't see it then your eyes are closed and you are acting willfully ignorant. Open your eyes and speak up. I didn't even get to it in this video because I was so emotional (also note: it's okay to be emotional at a time like this) but police response to white versus black protestors is jarringly apparent and deserves to be called out. Not all that long ago white protestors were meeting in Minneapolis armed with assault style weapons to protest wearing masks, demanding to get haircuts. Haircuts. Last night, however, peaceful and unarmed black protestors were met with rubber bullets and tear gas - which is extra harmful during a pandemic with a virus that spreads through coughing, I might add. The difference is there and it should be called out. George Floyd deserves justice, as does every black man and woman who have been wrongfully murdered at the hands of police. We riot to invoke change. We should be rioting. We need change. This fight does not end until our racist systems are dismantled and rebuilt piece by piece.
