47km stroll across the entire Australian Capital Territory

Walk Rating 💀 Difficulty: 3 🤩 Interest / fun : 9 🤡 Creativity of route: 10 ♻️ Keen to retry: 8 🏔 Scenery: 7 ---------- Journey - 7:15 → 19:45 🚌 ANU → Belconnen → Gold Creek 🥾 Gold Creek → Hall Village → NSW-ACT Border → Hall → Belconnen → Black Mountain → ANU → Old Parliament → Kingston → Fyshwick → Beard → ACT-NSW Border → Queanbeyan 🚗 Queanbeyan → ANU ---------- Description Woke up one morning and thought it would be fun to cross the entire Australian Capital Territory by starting from one side of New South Wales and walking across the ACT to the other border of New South Wales. When I originally planned the route it was meant to be 35km, which then increased to 38km on a recount. On the day, it somehow took us 47km which was an unpleasant surprise. I asked around and had quite a bit of interest in joining me and then on the morning of the adventure, three friends decided to come along with me. Thanks to Dylan, Anneysha and Jasmine for joining. A special applause goes to Dylan for wearing his thongs (flip-flops) for the entirety of the trip, even bringing a second set incase the pluggers broke. Google maps route suggestion was going to take us across the territory via the main highways which would have been no fun, so I modified the route to include more of the scenic parks as well as take us over black mountain. I was looking for a start and end point that both had clear border signs so that we had something to look forward to upon seeing the border rather than the imaginary line. The only way for us to get to New South Wales to start with was via a bus that stopped 4.5km from the border itself. So we set off at 7am and got dropped off in Hall village and made our way to the border. None of us had any experience in hiking like this so I was pretty pleased we all made it to the end, even if it did take us 11 hours I haven’t done much hiking around Canberra or Australia but after this trip, I will try and find some more adventurous treks rather than the stereotypical black mountain / mount Ainslie hikes that most people do here in Canberra Thank you to the guy who asked us if we were all okay after he saw us writhing on the pavement near Queanbeyan. update: this walk got a lot of interest locally and resulted in an interview from both ABC Canberra as well as an article in the Canberra Times (17/09/22) ————— Equipment Camera: GoPro 10 ————— Connect with me: Instagram:   / lukestevenadams   Strava:   / strava   ---------- Music 'Cross Over' by Sapajou Free download: https://bit.ly/3h1syq0
