Transforming lives: Improving clean cooking access in Freetown's informal settlements Located in Freetown, Sierra Leone, Susan’s Bay is one of the city’s largest informal settlements, home to over 4500 people. Most households and food-based enterprises in this area rely on charcoal for cooking. The burning of firewood and charcoal emits toxic pollutants that can irritate eyes, cause headaches, breathing difficulties, and pose long-term health risks. Watch our clean cooking in sub-Saharan Africa explainer video here: • [ENG/FR] ENACT: Clean cooking in Sub-Sahar... The ENACT project has been working in Susan’s Bay and its surrounding areas to encourage more residents and small business owners to use clean cookstoves. Hear stories from the residents in this video. The Enabling African Cities for Transformative Energy Access (ENACT) Project, is supported by UK aid from the UK Government via the Transforming Energy Access platform platform. It is implemented by ICLEI Africa in collaboration with Energy 4 Impact-Mercy Corps.
