Chesty mix! Something that I think is not well understood and ends up creating a mindset that is harmful to one's vocal development, especially on the rock / metal high singing style In this video I share my experience with it, why it halted my advances for long and what I learned in the process. What really is chesty mix and what is it not? The main problem here happens when you think you can turn your upper mix or head voice range into a "chesty mix" as this just makes you think "take my chest up there!" which is wrong and causes strain and a constant state of belting, instead the upper mix should be head dominant, with the chest dominant mix being only your lower mix range. I think some of this has to do with context: how you actually sound in a rock / metal full production with other instruments vs what you sound by yourself in a bedroom. It's surprising how thick and more "chesty" a head dominant voice can sound when you put it together with a band with the right vocal chain.
