Leaders in the Northern Territory's largest Aboriginal community are accusing the NT government of not meeting its tough-on-crime commitment in the bush, as they face funding cuts for the town's private security guards. Leaders in Maningrida, in Western Arnhem Land, have called on the government to apply its crime fighting election mandate equally in urban and remote areas. For the last two years, private security guards have helped protect businesses and homes in the community of 3,000 people, after a major upsurge in property crime.
