District 6, Cape Town was a development occupiedprimarily by Cape Town's colored residents till the 1960s. It was located in a highly desirable, and scenic location in downtown Cape Town, at the foot hill of Table Mountain, and close to Cape Town's spectacular waterfront. In 1966, District 6 was designated a Whites Only locality, under the Group Areas Act. In the early 1970s, District 6 was raised to the ground by the Apartheid government, following the massive, forced relocation of District 6's multi-ethnic, heterogenous communities of non-White South African ethnicities, including Cape Malay muslims, Xhosa, Indians, and a few Afrikaans. Suleiman Gool of the Gool Family from the former District 6 recounts his childhood memories of a lost home, forced displacement, and exile to Wens Crawford, miles away from access to Cape Town's highly prized waterfront, which was restricted primarily to White South Africans only, till the end of Apartheid.
