Deakin University Islamic Politics Professor Greg Barton says it’s “wishful thinking” if individuals and governments think the days of ISIS and Al-Qaeda are behind us. This comes as a terror attack at a synagogue in Manchester, UK, resulted in the deaths of two Jewish people and injuries to several others. “I think that practitioners … who work on these issues don’t underestimate them, they understand what’s going on,” Mr Barton told Sky News host James Macpherson. “It’s wishful thinking, this problem is not going to go away, it’s very resilient … given the troubles the world’s in at the moment, the rising levels of antisemitism, we’d be fools to think that the risk hasn’t gone up; it has.”
