Aloha to all, this video starts off with a recap of meeting some of my living relatives for the first time in Ueki, Kumamoto, Kyushu, Japan. After a nice traditional ryokan breakfast, we (Toru, Masaki, Susette and Matt) went to Shiranui to find where Susette's Grandpa Yamashita came from. After finding where Susette's Grandpa lived, we traveled to the Shokinkan Ryokan and walked along a portion of the Ariake Sea. The Ariake Sea is the largest bay in Kyushu and has the largest tidal difference in Japan which is about 6 meters or nearly 20 feet. The mudflats are extensive and account for approximately 40% of Japan’s total tidal flats. These mudflats are also critical wintering sites for endangered migratory birds. We hope you will checkout "Going to Shiranui" as we share some findings, good times, laughter, food and memories of this special place. Mahalo nui loa, take care and keep living the dream! Matt & Susette Higashida
