On September 15th, I attached a Brinno TLC200 Time Lapse camera to the fence line behind the Marfa Light Viewing Area on US-90. While it did not capture the large bright balls of light that the area is know for, it did capture quite a few smaller ones. These are quick flashes of light along the desert floor and above the skyline. Personally I call these the ignition lights. They fire up frequently throughout the night but it takes special circumstances in atmospheric conditions to fire up one of the larger balls of light. When you're watching the video ignore the lights on the top right hand of the screen. These are vehicles driving along HWY 67, which you can see looking SW of the Viewing Area. Every night these lights are visible and have a crowd gathered around watching them. I included these in the shots so that you can see that the lights are to the SW of this area. If you're at the Viewing Area you should look SE towards Cathedral Mountain. The real Marfa Lights are large, multi-colored and travel across long distances along the desert floor. They are rare...I've been to this location dozens of times over the years and have only seen the big lights three times.
